Wood County Museum Meeting Room FREE In October 1929, the Stock Market crashed. The mood, among consumers and investors, was bleak. Yet, in Washington, President Hoover sought to quell the nation’s fears. The American economy, he proclaimed, was “fundamentally sound.” This, of course, was not the case. In this lecture, we will discuss the beginnings of the Great Depression—from 1929 to 1932—focusing specifically on its origins and the initial responses. In doing so, we will dissect how the intricacies of domestic and international economics culminated in a decade’s long global depression. This is the third installment in the Great Depression Lecture Series, an America 250 program. This is a Wood County Park District lead event, in partnership with the Wood County Museum.
